The Everyday Powers of Christ!

HOT HOT HOT! This week has been super hot outside, up in the high 90´s, with a high level of humidty as well! I´ve never taken the phrase that the members always say to us so seriously: "Caminan por the sombra Hermanas!" (or "Walk in the shade Sisters!") It has been quite the adventure :) luckily the people have pity on us and invite us in to share a message, drink a glass of ice water, and rest for a moment. So that´s always a plus!

We got to teach a new investigator this week, named Gustavo. He´s the husband of a recent convert here and has recently shown interest in listening to the missionaries. So we shared with him and his family a little message about love and unity in home and family. It was great! He even went to church on Sunday, which was quite the surprise, because he´s kind of a stubborn man and refused to wake up early on one of his only days off of work. But anything is possible in the Lord´s work! :)

I had an intercambio with Hermana Cannon this week! I don´t know if some of you remember, but I was in the MTC with Hermana Cannon! We arrived to Argentina the same day! But she had an accident playing soccer and had to go home for a few months, but she´s back now and we got to spend 24 hours together! She´s such a sweet sister and we got to work hard together as a companionship for the first time! 

Today for P-day, we had our Zone Activity. Our Zone leaders planned a big Amazing Race activity, so we were running around Quilmes all morning, looking for the next clue, trying to finish with the best time! My companion and I finished 3rd out of 12, so not bad :) It was a fun experience, even with the heat! Then we all went and got pizza afterwards!

I know, with all my heart, that through Jesus Christ, we can do all things. He has the power to cleanse and heal even the deepest wounds and to strengthen and transform us into the divine beings that we can become :) I love this gospel!

Luke 18:15-16

15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
I love seeing little kids make the decision to follow Christ´s example! :) This week, we got to help prepare the baptism of a little girl in our ward named Melisa. She´s from Italy and is the sweetest little thing you´ve ever seen! We had such a fun time decorating and cooking food for the baptism, which was held on Saturday: the day of her 8th birthday! I really do know that we should follow the example of the little children in being more humble, obedient, and full of love each day!

We also had interviews with President Nuñez this week. He talked about being exactly obedient and making goals that will bring us closer to our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ. It helped my companion and I to work even harder during the week to reach our goals and help as many people as possible come to know the Gospel of Jesus Christ! We met an older lady, Maria, and she is absolutely a woman of faith! She loves her Savior and really strives to listen to the spirit. We shared with her the message of the Restoration and, after clearing up a doubt or two about Joseph Smith, she committed to read and pray about the Book of Mormon. That´s all we needed to hear! The Book of Mormon is the best missionary out there :)

The Sun'll Come Out! :)

It´s a beautiful summer day in Argentina! The sun is shining and it is HOT! I was so excited yesterday when it started raining! We didn´t even use our umbrellas because the rain felt so good and refreshing :)

This week, we found 2 new investigators: Hugo and Ilda. They´re an older married couple and they have been very prepared! They told us that they feel something different when we´re teaching them: the Spirit! The only tricky part is going to be getting them to church! They´ve never attended a church before and the wife, Ilda, keeps telling us that she´s not ready to go yet. Hopefully we can help her come to see the importance of church attendance, because that´s where we recharge our spiritual batteries for the week, strengthen our testimonies, and partake of the Sacrament!

I don´t have too much to write this week, except that it´s a great day to be a missionary. I really have come to know, with all my heart, that Heavenly Father loves us. He has a plan for each one of us and wants us to return home to him someday. All He asks us to do is keep His commandments :)

Welcome to 2016 :)

What a way to start off the new year: Showing the new Elders in our area around Berazategui! We are now 4 missionaries in the Berazategui area, woo! We´re going to be able to work even harder now because our area was cut in half: half given to the Elders and half for us. Sadly, we won´t be working in the area where most of the converts that I´ve seen get baptized live. But the Elders will surely take care of them and I´ll still get to see them on Sundays :) 

I´ve been a little sick with a stomach problem the past few weeks, so that was a bit bothersome. But thankfully we still got to meet a new investigator, Graciela. She´s a middle aged woman who owns an antique shop and she´s great! She´s so nice and she has been reading the Book of Mormon ever since one of her LDS friends gave her one :) (Member missionary work: woo-hoo!) We just started teaching her and we taught her the Plan of Salvation, which she understood very well :) She committed to pray about it and read a few specific verses we left with her in the Book of Mormon! We´ll be praying hard for her so she can keep coming unto Christ :)

Today for P-day we went to an all-you-can-eat pizza and empanada place! It was great! Almost our entire zone went (At least 16 Elders and 4 Hermanas), so you can imagine how much pizza we must have eaten! It was quite the day :) 

Happy New Year! Don´t forget to write down your goals and new years resolutions (good luck with all the diets out there ;) 

One goal we can all put this new year was well said by President Howard W. Hunter: 

"We must know Christ better than we know him; we must remember him more often than we remember him; we must serve him more valiantly than we serve him."

Merry Christmas everyone! :)  

The biggest Christmas miracle happened this week! Our investigator, Silvia, and her 12 year-old son, Gonzalo, accepted baptismal dates for the 26th of December!! It was the happiest day of my life :) She was so excited, but still not as excited as I 

was! I love this family with all my heart. I have been able to see them through the Savior´s eyes and it is maravillosa! :) I know that Heavenly Father loves all of His children, every single one.

Well, besides Christmas Choir practice and Leadership Council this week, we also went to help out with a Capilla Abierta in Plátanos (about 15 minutes from where I´m at in Berazategui). It was a blast! We got to visit some of the less active members during the morning to invite them to the activity and then we got to give little tours of the church to those who came :) We also got to see a little Nativity scene acted out by the Plátanos ward. It was precious :) 

On Sunday, the Primary children sang "Jesús en Pesebre" or "Away in a Manger". Everyone was touched by the spirit that was there. I absolutley love Christmas time. There is something in the air that everyone can feel: the Spirit of Christ! Hopefully we can all remember Him this Christmas and the perfect, loving example He is in our lives.

Pres. Benson said "If thoughts make us what we are, and we are to be like Christ, then we must think Christlike thoughts." Let us think of Christ this week and every day, because He is our Savior. He lives and He loves us! :)

Tis the Season :) December 14, 2015

What a crazy past couple of weeks! (I ran out of time last week and didn´t get to write to everyone, so sorry about that) I am loving the Christmas season! Miracles are everywhere :)  

One of our investigators, Silvia, continues to surprise me! Last week, she bought a bible and she also read to 1 Nephi 3 in the Book of Mormon! She cleaned her house up and told us that she did it so that the spirit can be there! This week she made it to 1 Nephi 10 and caught me off guard when I started talking about why we want to share the gospel with everyone and she said "It´s like Lehi when he ate the fruit and wanted to share it with his family because it tasted so good." Talk about MIND BLOWN! I couldn´t stop smiling that day :) She has been to church the past couple of Sundays, and her sons Gonzalo, Máximo, and Ivan have been coming with her as well. They even went to the Ward Christmas Party last Monday! They´re such a special family, they have definitely been prepared by the Lord! :) We´re praying hard for them each and every day so that they can feel the same and accept a baptismal date! 

I had an intercambio with Hermana Sánchez (from Utah) last week and then an intercambio with Hermana Fagua (from Columbia) this week, both of which were amazing! I always learn so much from the other missionaries here! We also had a sleepover with Hermana Sánchez and Hermana Callis this week! They had to stay in our pension because they had to be in Quilmes super early in the morning and we live close to there. It was an adventure, especially when the power went out and we couldn´t sleep because it was sooo hot in our apartment! But we made it through alive, a little tired but alive ;) 

We went to the temple with a few recent converts last Saturday (Dec. 5), it was absolutely amazing! Aldana, a young lady who got baptized a few months ago, entered the temple to do baptisms for the dead and we got to go in with her and support her! It was such a special experience, I will never forget it. I couldn´t be more grateful to be a missionary and help people find the truth and receive the many blessings that our Heavenly Father has prepared for them! :) 

We had a Tormenta Blanca on Saturday in Plátanos, which is about 15-20 minutes from our area. It was SUPER hot outside, but it was still a success! We spent the morning visiting less actives and inviting everyone to watch the new Christmas video for this year, "A Savior is Born." If you haven´t already seen it, I hope that you can take 2 minutes of your time to watch it because it is amazing! And then share it with everyone you know ;)
